The Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) primarily provides advanced instruction and professional training in science and technology, agriculture, fisheries, education and other relevant field of study. It shall also undertakes research and extension services, and provide progressive leadership in its area of specialization.

For the last three years during the term of the then President, Nelson T. Binag preparation were done for the conversion of state college to university and for whatever reasons the bill was archived. With the installation of the new president, Dr. Teresita Llorente - Cambel, updating of the documents relative to university hood was again done. In addition, several strategies were employed to meet the most coveted university status since this was also the prime concern of the incumbent president. Hence, on January 18, 2010 by virtue of republic Act No. 9966, SKPSC was converted into Sultan Kudarat State University as sponsored by Hon. Congressman Pax S. Mangudadatu and Hon. Congressman Arnulfo F. Go in the House of Congress and Senator Manuel Roxas, Senator Edgardo Angara, Senator Panfilo Lacson and Senator Miguel Subere in Senate.
Just like other institutions of learning, SKPSC Isulan has its long history that dates back to the year 1968. When a complete elementary school was established in Isulan. Considering that there was no public high school to absorb or accommodate the public elementary graduates, the school and barrio authorities planned and entertained the idea of opening a barrio high school patterned after the brain child of Dr. Pedro Orata of Urdanate, Pangasinan who is better known as the Father of Barrio High School. The year 1968 was a landmark in the history of Isulan Barrio high School. Through the collective and unending efforts of the Barrio Officials, the school authorities and the populace, he establishment and opening of a barrio high school was made possible. In the very same year, the high school was opened and operated in the same school site, school building and shared the same facilities with the Isulan Elementary School. Dr. Veronica Pastor then acted as principal of both the Isulan Elementary School and Isulan Barrio High School with Mrs. Salvacion Sotelo as her assistant. Everything went smoothly through the constant encouragement by Mr. Lorenzo Labrador, the District Supervision of Isulan at that time. In 1969, Dr. Pastor was promoted and at that time Mrs. Bienvenida S. Terania who also has had a training and experience in the establishment and operation of a barrio high school took over the reins as principal, having been previously designated as Guidance Coordinator. This previous designation of hers served as her stepping - stone to principal ship. In 1974, Isulan Barrio High School was elevated to the Status of a provincial High School beet still sharing the same school site, school buildings and school facilities with the Isulan Elementary School, a status it help up to 1977. In 1975, Mrs. Terani as application for study leave was approved and granted and so Mrs. Donatila C. Romano was designated as officer on length of experience and capabilities. Through the unselfish and untiring efforts and support of authorities concerned the Isulan. Provincial high School was again elevated to the status of a national high school, thus, becoming Sultan Kudarat National High School. This time, through the all out efforts of school and provincial officials, the high schools was given its permanent school site at the capital complex where its buildings are now permanently situated. Just in time that SKNHS was growing in size in terms of faculty, staff and students, R. A. 6973 took effect. This is an act establishing the Sultan Kudarat Polytechnic State College as authored by Hon. Estanislao Valdez, the representative of the lone congressional district of Sultan Kudarat. Hence, on Dec. 6, 1990 Polytechnic State College, merging itself with the other public high schools in the province namely: Tacurong Municipal High School, Kalamansig High School, Lutayan National Agricultural School, and Palimbang High School Normal Today, the high school curriculum in SKPSC Isulan is being gradually phased out in conformity to the provisions of R. A. 6973 or the SKPSC Charter. In fact by the school year 1998 - 99 the high school curriculum will no longer be offered in SKPSC Isulan.

History
Sultan Kudarat State University is formerly known as Sultan Kudarat Polytechnic State College (SKPSC). Established last 1990, by virtue of RA 6973, otherwise known as the SKPSC Charter and authored by then Cong. Estanislao V. Valdez of the Lone District of Sultan Kudarat in the House of Congress and Senator Edgardo Angara in the Senate. Unlike other State Colleges, SKPSC was established out of five (5) previously Department of Education Culture and Sport (DECS )- supervised High School in five (5) municipalities of the Province.These five high school in Isulan, Kalamansig, Palimbang, Tacurong and Lutayan. become the core for the creation of Sultan Kudarat Polytechnic College.As the only State College in the province, resolutions were made by the local government units.
