. It is the single-platform northern terminus of the Gainsborough Line, and is managed by National Express East Anglia, who provide all train services. The station is located on the edge of the town centre.

The current station is the third one in Sudbury. The first was built in 1849, which was replaced in 1865 when the line was extended to Cambridge

. Sudbury again became a terminus in 1967, the station remaining as it was. In 1991 the station was re-sited in order that the Kingfisher Leisure Centre could be built.

The unstaffed station is looked after voluntarily by Sudbury in Bloom The station is entered yearly in the Anglia in Bloom station competition and won Silver Gilt in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Sudbury Station won the Best Station Garden award at the 2008 ACoRP Community Rail Awards.

A self-service ticket machine has been provided adjacent to the platform entrance.
