to help wounded soldiers that are being treated at military hospitals. Each participating pitcher donates a certain amount of money depending on how many strikeouts they record in each season. After visiting a military hospital, Zito decided to help military families by starting the project. He helps by donating $400 for each strikeout he throws in a game.
