Streetly was in Aldridge-Brownhills Urban District until the creation of West Midlands County ,in 1974, and Streetly fell under the governing of Walsall Council. Streetly is an area in Sutton Coldfield, therefore meaning Streetly falls within the Sutton Coldfield Post Town area. Despite Streetly being under Walsall council, it holds closer ties and relations with Birmingham
and Sutton Coldfield

postcode and area code (0121). Streetly is designated "an area of special interest" by Walsall council since they account for some of the most expensive and exclusive housing stock in the borough - it is a very much sought-after residential address and properties regularly sell for over £1 million.
There was a system of 5-9 first and 9-13 middle schools in Streetly from September 1972 until July 1986, before Streetly and the rest of the former Aldridge-Brownhills authority was brought into line with the main Walsall
area to incorporate the traditional school age ranges. For those 14 years, the Streetly School was a 13-18 comprehensive.
Since September 1992, pupils transferring from primary schools in Streetly have had the option of transferring to secondary schools in neighbouring Sutton Coldfield

) following that area's reduction in the secondary school age from 12 to 11.
