 Tornado. The tornado struck early evening, starting near the western city limits, near exit 84 on Interstate 44. It remained on the ground for almost 20 miles, finally ending near Niangua, Missouri. It destroyed dozens of homes and barns, and killed two people, one a Strafford resident, and one near Niangua.

Route 66 Days

is considered one of the most important highway links from the 20th Century. Today, much of the road is decommissioned, yet some portions of the road still exist, also known as the Mother Road and America's Highway.

Route 66 is celebrated now by many towns along the original highway. Strafford's "Route 66" Days was established in 1991 as a festival to celebrate everything about the highway.

Each Second Weekend of September, Strafford has a town festival devoted to the Highway. The Chamber of Commerce of Strafford hosts the event.
