Stockton Sixth Form College

Stockton Sixth Form College is a mixed, non-denominational sixth form college in Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland, established in 1973 after a reorganisation of post-16 education in the Teesside area. It is one of six colleges that are past of the UK Colleges A-Level Consortium. The college is based on one site at Bishopton Road, two miles from the town centre. It is noted for high quality of provision and a high standard of teaching. Despite serving an area with a slightly below average achievement at GCSE level, the sixth form college achieved an A-E pass rate at A-level of 98.3% in 2007, and a 100% pass rate in 25 subjects.
The College has a history of trips to Europe, and the United States with certain courses giving students the chance to visit New York, Aix-en-Provence, Washington DC and Troisdorf.
Enrichment schemes take place at the college once a week usually in a lunchtime in order to broaden student's horizons; groups such as the college newspaper and the young enterprise are popular choices for many students.
Currently a new block is being built onto the side of Stockton Sixth Form College. The blocks main usage will be for ICT & Science department.
The present
The college provides a range of A-level, GCSE and vocational courses to post-16 students in the Stockton-on-Tees area. All classrooms are equipped with a data projector, multi-media PC, VCR and speakers enabling teachers to make use of the latest technology in their teaching. In addition, there are computers available for private study in open access rooms, study areas and the common room. Developments
The college now runs a Cricket course in which students can undertake cricket coaching under the guidance of tutor Matthew Speight. The college have a new Dance and Drama studio which is part of the multi-million pound investment which is a joint venture between the College and Stockton Town Football Club.Currently a new block is being built onto the side of Stockton Sixth Form College. Student council
The college runs a student council which lets the students attempt to voice their views. It meets on an irregular basis, usually once or twice every term, and is composed of an elected representative from every form group. Every year the newly arrived students elect a vice-president for the council who will take over once the serving president leaves. They have no official power and are often used more as a organizational body to help coordinate events. Nonetheless councillors can voice complaints from their form and have participated in the creation of a new logo.Staff
