He quickly became an automatic selection for Manager John Ryan at Kildare County. Most notably scoring both goals when Kildare came from one goal behind against Limerick at Hogan Park to win 2 - 1. His first goal in that game was struck from over 30 yards and memorably rattled in off the cross bar. He has also a handy free kick, with his free kick against Bray in the FAI Cup winning Kildare County goal of the season 2006. Cooling signed for Waterford United
after the 2006 season and scored on his Waterford debut against Cork City on the first day of the season.
Cooling's stay at Waterford was short however and he returned to Kildare County in July 2007 having made just 5 appearances and scoring a single goal for Waterford United http://www.kildarecountyfc.com/news/news-details.asp?NewsID=899. Cooling had an instant impact and was awarded player of the month for July of that season. His return to Station Road didn't last long. An injury put him out of the squad.
