History

The municipality of Stemshaug was established on 1 July 1914 when it was split from the municipality of Aure

. Initially, Stemshaug had a population of 851. On 1 January 1965, Stemshaug was merged back into Aure. Prior to the merger, Stemshaug had a population of 877.
