The company was incorporated in 1983 and started commercial production in 1986. It is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company. SIFL, a subsidiary of Steel Industries Limited Kerala (SILK) started its commercial production in 1986. The company was referred to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in the mid-1990s.SIFL which had an accumulated loss of about Rs 15 crores in 1993-94. The main products of SIFL are: Complex and high precision aerospace forgings, Specialised forgings for defence, Heavy forgings for commercial vehicles, Indian Railways and other components for automobiles etc.
