As new sections of Corridor X have opened, U.S. Highway 78 has been rerouted onto the new limited access highway, and the old sections of US-78 have been designated as SR-118, thus extending the route eastward by nearly 40 miles (64.4 km). The current eastern terminus of the route is west of Jasper
at the junction with State Route 69
