St. Lawrence's economy was primarily based on fishing until the recent collapse of North American cod

In 1992, a memorial entitled 'Echoes of Valour' was erected in dedication of the mining industry in St. Lawrence, the sailors who died in the U.S.S. Truxtun & U.S.S. Pollux disaster, as well as those who lost their lives in the World Wars.
