History

The Spokane Black Widows began the 2010 season with two exhibition matches in place of their inaugural home opener that was supposed to be against the now defunct Central Valley Heat SC, from Stockton, CA. The Widows lost in the first exhibition match to the Men's River City team, but won the second match a day later against SSC Elite, with a final score of 6-1. Spokane's inaugural match and home opener against the California Storm on May 30, 2010 ended 3:0 in favor of the Storm. The Black Widows second game of the season resulted in a loss against BSC Portland Rain ending 2:1. Kara Tisthammer netted the first goal in team history. A night after the team's first goal, came their first win. In the rematch against BSC Portland Rain, in Portland, OR., the Black Widows walked away with a 1:0 victory. The Widow's second straight win came against North Bay FC Wave at Joe Albi Stadium. After taking an early 1:0 lead it appeared the Wave had leveled, but the goal was pulled back. In the second half the Wave did get level, only to concede a goal in stoppage time and hand Spokane the 2:1 victory. During the game, head coach Jason Quintero was sent off for not cooperating with the officials, and the officials failed to award a PK to Spokane. A day after defeating North Bay FC Wave the Black Widows lost 1:0 to the wave on rain soaked fields at Joe Albi Stadium. On the team's first away campaign to California they lost to Clovis Sidekicks 2:4, and destroyed Sacramento Pride 6:0. In their first match home the Widows played the Sidekicks again in a very physical match-up, only this time they came away with a 2:1 victory. The final home match of the team's inaugural season, played on July 10th 2010, ended 4:2 in favor of the widows. One of the Black Widows goals came off the left foot of Alyshia Madison from over 40 yards out. The originally scheduled final home match against the Sacramento Pride resulted in a 3:0 forfeit. For the final two matches of the season the Widows traveled to California to play the California Storm and San Francisco Nighthawks, which resulted in a 3:0 loss and 2:2 draw respectively. The draw in the final match gave the Widows a needed point to move into 3rd position in the table standings (19 PTS from 12 GP) and capped a well fought season for the first year squad.
