Split Enz were a New Zealand band of the 1970s and early 1980s featuring Phil Judd and brothers Tim Finn and Neil Finn. They achieved chart success in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada during the early 1980s ‒ most notably with the single "I Got You", and built a cult following elsewhere...

. Apparently intended to be the final word on Split Enz compilations, it is the band's most comprehensive career survey. Featured amongst the album's 39 tracks are all the hits, live favourites, choice album tracks and a few rarities, all selected by members of the band.

A la the band's 1980 album True Colours, the album was released with different colour combos for the cover: blue & yellow, red & green, purple & orange, and black & cream (the last one being the only combo available for the cassette version), while the 1999 New Zealand reissue featured a special black & silver cover (pictured right).
