The EP debuted at No. 1 on the Australian Charts. It was the first single and/or EP to ever hit No. 1 on the charts in its first week of release. Species Deceases spent a total of 6 weeks at the top in Australia (Dec. 1985 – Jan. 1986), being Midnight Oil's only Australian No. 1 on the singles chart.
