 Council were held in May 1964. The whole council was up for election. Turnout was 21.7%. There were 22 wards.

These elections were the first to the newly formed borough. Previously elections had taken place in the Borough of Bermondsey

This election had aldermen as well as councillors. Labour got all ten aldermen as well as 64 councillors.

The Council was elected in 1964 as a "shadow authority" but did not start operations until 1 April 1965.
