South Gippsland Shire is a Local Government Area in Victoria, Australia. It is located in the south-eastern part of the state. It includes the towns of Leongatha
(administrative centre), Korumburra
, Foster
, Poowong and Mirboo North
. It has an area of 3,305 square kilometres. In 2006 it had a population of 25,737.
It was formed in 1994 from the merging of the Shire of Mirboo
, Shire of South Gippsland
, and parts of the Shire of Korumburra
and Shire of Woorayl
.
Each ward is represented by three elected Councillors.
