Soreng is known for its largest production of vegetables, oranges and flowers in the Darjeeling district. The inhabitants are mostly Tamangs, Lepches and few other castes. Soreng is about 2 hour from Darjeeling and 1 hour from Kalimpong. The region is an eco-tourism spot, and thousands of people visit yearly.

Its major attraction are landscapes, such as fisheries, a good view of Mount. Kanchanjanga, flora and fauna, and white river rafting at Teesta river.
