History

Sohag University became an independent university in 2006. Before 2006, it was part of another university.
There are currently ten colleges in Sohag University, as well as future plans to found more colleges to better serve the community. Dr. Mostafa Kamal, formerly dean of Assiut College of Science, is the first president of the university. and the second president of the university is Professor Mohammad E. Ibrahim, Sohag University is looking forward to be a cultural and educational center in Egypt and an example of a world university that works to serve its local community and provide a kind of education that is related to the market needs.
