. The label evolved, initially, from popular clubnight 'Slam Dunk', a weekly clubnight held at the city's Cockpit music venue, predominantly centered around emo/punk/ska and metal music genres. Slam Dunk Records is also associated with popular music festival 'Slam Dunk Festival', which was established in 2006. Although initially small-scale set up with only a handful of artists, the yearly event now attracts a large number of well-known artists and has slowly established itself as a popular indoor day-long music festival. Slam Dunk Festival is held on the May Bank Holiday of each year, now at University of Leeds
