The Sixth Central Pay commission
was set up by Union Cabinet of India
on 5 October 2006 for revising the salaries of central government's employees. The commission was set up under Justice B.N.Srikrishna with a time-frame of 18 months. Other members were Prof. Ravindra Dholakia, Mr. J.S.Mathur and Member-Secretary Smt. Sushama Nath.

The cabinet has approved sixth pay commission recommendations with some modifications on 14 August. Revised pay will be implemented with effect from 01.01.2006 and allowances will be paid with effect from 01.09.2008.However, on 5th July 2010 , the central Govt. allows employees to choose the date from which one wants to revise the pay as per sixth pay commission.
The report led to a 6% increase in dearness allowance for central govt employees from 16% to 22%.. The implementation would put an additional 20,000 crore burden on the central government.
