Sir John Hobart, 3rd Baronet (20 March 1628 – 22 August 1683) was an English
politician.
He was the son of Sir Miles Hobart (son of Sir Henry Hobart, 1st Baronet
), and his wife Frances Peyton, daughter of Sir John Peyton, 1st Baronet, and was born in Ditchingham
. In 1647, he succeeded his uncle John
as baronet, and in 1671, he was host to King Charles II of England.
In 1633 he was appointed High Sheriff of Norfolk
and then represented Norfolk
in the First Protectorate Parliament
and the Second Protectorate Parliament
between 1654 and 1659. After the Restoration
, he sat again as Member of Parliament
for Norfolk from 1673 until February 1679 and from May of the same year until 1685. In 1665, Hobart was High Sheriff of Norfolk
.
In June 1656, Hobart married firstly Mary Hampden, daughter of John Hampden
at St Giles's-in-the-Fields in London
. His second wife became his cousin Philippa, daughter of his uncle John. Hobart had three sons and two daughters by his first wife. He was buried in Blickling
a week after his death and was succeeded by his eldest son Henry
