Sir James Frederick Lyon, KCB

(1775–1842) was an officer of the British Army
and Governor of Barbados.
Sir James Lyon joined the 25th Regiment of Foot as ensign on 4 August 1791. He received the ranks of Lieutenant on 26 April 1793, Captain on 5 April 1795, Major on 21 February 1799, Lieutenant-Colonel on 13 May 1802, Colonel on 4 June 1811, Major General on 4 June 1814 and Lieutenant General on 22 July 1830.
Sir James Lyon commanded a detachment of the 24th Regiment of Foot on board of the Marlborough, in Lord Howe's sections of the 27 and 28 May and 1 June 1794. He was also present with the 97th Regiment of Foot at the battle of Alexandria
in Egypt, and received a medal and one clasp for the Battle of Vimeiro
and the Battle of Talavera.
He was Colonel of the 24th Regiment of Foot, from 7 September 1829.
He was Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath
and Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Guelphic Order
