On June 25, 1962 Jack Reed hit the only home run of his career in the top of the 22 inning as the New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers. Reed often joked that the Yankees kept him on the roster to caddy for slugger Mickey Mantle.
Acoustic guitarist George Cunningham attended school in Silver City. Since 2002, Cunningham has played with the "Faux Frenchman," a group he helped form. Cunningham grew up on a farm located on Highway 49 West between Silver City and Louise and played summer baseball in Louise. He lived in Canada for a period of time.

John Burwell Reed, or better known as Jack Reed was born February 2, 1933 in Silver City, Mississippi is a former professional baseball player. He was an outfielder over parts of 3 seasons (1961–1963) with the New York Yankees. Reed was a member of the 1961 World Series champion Yankees.
