Silicon Valley Network
Encyclopedia
Silicon Valley Network is an initiative to create free wireless coverage throughout the Bay Area, or at least in San Francisco and the Peninsula.

Its purpose was to facilitate business development in the area. It originated during the dot-com boom, but suffered several setbacks in later years. Current status of the project is unknown, and the efforts to cover the city areas instead (such as San Francisco, Boston and Chicago) have met with various difficulties.
