Shortlands is a parliamentary constituency

and (as its name indicates) covers the Shortland Islands

The constituency was one of the thirty-eight original constituencies established for the First Parliament elected in 1976. Its first MP was Remesion Eresi.
, there were seven candidates for the seat, including incumbent MP Augustine Taneko
and prior MP Albert Laore. The seat was won by independent
candidate Steve Laore
, who obtained 1,073 votes, and was thereby elected to Parliament for the first time.
Steve Laore died after collapsing suddenly on August 25, a mere three weeks after his election. A bye-election
was held on March 30, 2011, and won by Laore's brother, Christopher Laore
.
