. The Shire covers an area of 179798 square kilometres (69,420 sq mi), and its seat of government is the town of Laverton.

History

The Mount Margaret Road District was gazetted in 1906. It absorbed the Mount Morgans municipality in 1913, and in 1925 received some land from neighbouring road districts, most notably Lawlers. On 20 January 1950 it was renamed Laverton, and on 1 July 1961, it became a Shire Council following changes to the Local Government Act.
