. It was established on December 11, 1938 as "Bengal Agricultural Institute (BAI)" by Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq, the then chief minister of undivided Bengal. It was the first agricultural institution in this region. This institute was upgraded to university in 2001 and renamed Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.
