History

The history of Shaver Creek begins during the year 1770. The creek was named after an older gentleman known as Shaver who was one of the original settlers in that area within the Juniata Valley. While much is unknown about the life of Shaver, he was described as dying in “a most singular manner” after being found decapitated near his home. His murder proved to be a significant mystery at the time because his head was never recovered after extensive searches of the area.

, the most active and energetic man in the Shaver Creek settlement was described as being Samuel Anderson. He erected a block-house fort on the flat near the mouth of the creek which was occupied during the war.
