, on the Lilywhites’ new artificial pitch. It was to get even better for Grimes later in the season when he scored a terrific free-kick in a 2-2 draw with Athlone Town in September, his only goal during 17 appearances under Gannon. After Jim Gannon resigned, new manager John Gill
decided to keep Grimes in his plans for the 2006 season as Dundalk remained in the First Division. However, Gill relied more upon experienced players rather than looking to youth and Grimes' opportunities were limited with only one start, a 1-0 defeat to Kildare County in March 2006. The 2007 season was kinder to Grimes as with an injury crisis came his chance to impress. He made 16 appearances in 2007 but Dundalk missed out on promotion. He remained with Dundalk for the 2008 season and was part of the team which lifted the League of Ireland First Division trophy and got promoted to the Premier Division. Grimes signed Monaghan United in 2009 and has committed to the Magic Mons for the 2010 season. He made 34 appearances and one substituted appearance for Monaghan in 2009 and scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Finn Harps in October.
