Corporate history

SDHS was originally incorporated with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Government in July 1997 as the Shandong Province Highway Limited Corporation. Since then SDHS has gone through a series of name changes as its ownership situation and corporate mission have evolved, changing first to the Shandong Province Highway, LLC in June 1999, and then to the Shandong Province Highway Group Company in January 2005, before adopting its present name in January 2008.

Construction projects

Since its foundation, SDHS has been involved in the construction and operation of a variety of transportation infrastructure projects throughout Shandong province, building a network that now includes almost 1400 kilometers of highway and 500 kilometers of railway. In addition to this, SDHS has taken the lead on construction of a further 3800 kilometers of railway throughout China, including a total investment of some 150 billion RMB (US$23.2 billion). province. Most recently, SDHS opened the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in June 2011 near Qingdao, Shandong, after four years of construction and at a cost of more US$1.5 billion. Upon its completion, this bridge is reported to be the world's longest roadway bridge over water.

Corporate recognition

In 2010, SDHS reported total profits of 3.8 billion RMB (US$587 million) stating that this made it the most profitable province-level company in China. The company also reported that in 2010 it was selected for the fourth year in a row as one of the "500 strongest companies in China," and recognition from the provincial government of Shandong as "an advanced collective leadership of state-owned enterprises."
