Shamik Dasgupta

Shamik Dasgupta is an Indian comic book writer.

He passed out as an Honors Graduate in English literature from Calcutta University in the year 2002. From his childhood his innate interest in comic books and animation prompted him to choose this career. Coming from a country where comic book industry is almost non existent, Dasgupta has established his own small corner in the comic book world as a writer.
Dasgupta is primarily known for his work for Virgin Comics, specifically his acclaimed run on Ramayan 3392 A.D a series based on the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana and set in a distant future which is presently under development as a MMORPG Game from Sony and a movie by Mandalay Pictures. He has also written a one shot horror graphic novel called Virulents which is soon to be made into a major motion picture by the acclaimed director John Moore. Presently his work has expanded to other comics books namely the latest series of Sadhu 'Wheel of Destiny' one shot superhero graphic novel Vargav in collaboration with Virgin Comics and UTV Spotboy productions, and the horror graphic novel Linger in collaboration with Virgin comics and Studio 18.

He is well-known for the re-telling of historical and mythological events - in different scenarios, with various twists and turns. His first major work Ramayan 3392 A.D has been rated highly at various comics sites.

Presently shamik Dasgupta is working with the new fangled Indian comic book company Arkin Comics on their flagship title Irith, which deals with a band of Indian super soldiers fighting against a massive terrorist group called The Last Jihad who are equipped with alien technology.

Shamik Dasgupta presently resides in his hometown Calcutta with his family.
