The band was founded in 1998 by drummer Lars Borup. In 2004 Mik Holm joined the band fulfilling the role of lead singer. In 2005 the first single "Artificial Night" was recorded and released. The single was nominated for a Danish Metal Award and won the 4th Unofficial European Heavy Metal Song Contest in 2006.

From 2005 to 2007 Seven Thorns was put on hold with the exit of Mik Holm and the addition of other new members. The original Seven Thorns was revived again in 2007 by Mik and Lars after the 7thorns project was terminated by Lars.

Seven Thorns was ready with new line-up in late 2008. The single "Forest Majesty" was recorded over new year 2008-09 and released in March 2009 by Airbourne Records.
