High school

Played for Sebastian River High School in 2002-2003. Transferred to Palm Bay High School before his senior year in the summer of 2003. Started as quarterback for the USA Today No. 3 ranked Palm Bay High School Pirates in 2003. In 2004, Wideberg was the ace of a Pirate's pitching staff that went 23-7. Palm Bay fell to Jacksonville Wolfson High School 1-0 in eight innings in the regional final championship on May 18, 2004. The Wolfson team featured two 2004 MLB First Round draft picks in (No. 14 overall) pick Billy Butler

Under Head Coach Ernie Rosseau, assistant coach Bryan Rahal and the tutelage of Pitching Coach Rich "Chooch" Coleman, Wideberg blossomed, earning First-Team All Southern Conference honors in 2006. Wideberg earned a trip to the Florida sophomore Junior College All-star showcase game in the fall of 2005 and struck out four batters in two innings of duty.
