Seamus Heaney Collected Poems
Encyclopedia
Collected Poems is a spoken-word recording of the Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney
reading his own work. It was released by RTÉ
to mark his 70th birthday, which occurred on April 17th, 2009. The fifteen CD boxed set spans 556 tracks in over twelve hours of oral performance by the poet (some poems span multiple tracks). The entire work was also released on one disc in MP3 format
.
The poems are presented in the chronological order of Heaney's first eleven poetry collections.Heaney's first printed collection was a 1965 pamphlet called Eleven Poems; all but one of these works appeared again in his first book collection proper, Death of a Naturalist
. Heaney's twelfth collection, Human Chain
is not included in this recording. A 58 page essay about Heaney by Irish poet Peter Sirr
is included in a booklet.
