Renowned for his swiftness, speed and sleight of hand, Hill has often been seen as a real entertainer in Rugby League. Though he is often seen as brilliant by many, he has been criticised for not being able to consistently perform at the highest level. His good form over the years has seen him represent both his state (NSW) and country (Australia).
Recruited by the Storm from the Hunter Mariners
, Hill was among several Melbourne Storm players from the club's inaugural year: 1998. He missed the 1999 grand final win over the Dragons due to a knee reconstruction. However he helped them to victory in the 2000 World Club Challenge
once he recovered, scoring two tries in the win against St Helens in England.
Seven seasons later Hill was still with Melbourne and his last match for them was at five-eighth in the 2006 NRL Grand Final loss to the Broncos. Leaving at the end of that season, Hill moved to London to play for the Harlequins club of Super League
