Founded in 1874, the community now has sisters, associates, staff, donors and volunteers working to address the needs of those who are poor and marginalized by society. The congregation’s mission is thriving throughout the United States, Europe, Latin America and India.

The Community's Mission

The mission of the School Sisters of St. Francis is “to live the Good News of Jesus and witness to the presence of God as we enter into the lives and needs of people around te world, especially those who are poor. We strive to be a source of new life, new meaning and new hope.”

Becoming a Partner in Mission

  • Donating financial resources to enable the community to impact the lives of people who are poor and marginalized by society
  • Volunteering with the sisters, associates and staff to serve others with compassion, for a single day or for a lifetime
  • Becoming an associate, committed to sharing the community’s Franciscan values and mission while continuing in one’s present lifestyle
  • Becoming a School Sister of St. Francis, committed to intentionally living Franciscan values through prayer, ministry, and community life
