The song

The song is one of the two family songs on Lead Me On. It uses analogies as well as a direct reference to the singer herself. The first few verses talk about a woman named Laura, who "loves her little family." According to the song, "she's kind of woman/who loves them with her life." The analogy is that Laura is "queen of the world," yet still loves her family more than anything. After the chorus, Grant talks about her love for her family. She says that there's "nothing quite like my family's love to warm me," and "nothin' short of death's ever gonna leave me cold." The lyrics give the song somewhat of melancholic feeling.

, Amy Grant reveals that "Laura" in the song is actually her sister Carol.

"Saved by Love" is one of two songs in which Grant uses her own name in her lyrics. In one of the choruses towards the end of the song, she can be heard saying, "Amy, she's been saved by love." Amy also uses her own name in her song Jehovah.

The music of the song is almost pop oriented, yet still remains to sound natural. There are mandolins playing throughout the song, as well as the sounds of the Adult Contemporary

Long time piano & keyboard player Benmont Tench from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, was the featured Hammond B-3 Organ player on the song's mid-solo. Tench's no-nonsense & non-showmanship approach, brought even a higher standard of eclectic-type musicianship, that was woven into the song's production.

Chart Success

"Saved by Love" was the biggest hit off the album in terms of mainstream charts. Although a number-one Christian hit, it peaked at #32 on the Adult Contemporary chart. This wasn't surprising, however. The previous single, "1974
