Santa Clarita Elementary
Santa Clarita Elementary is the oldest elementary school in the SUSD. It was opened at the corner of Seco Canyon Road and Decoro in 1960. It serves preschool–6th grade and houses around 625 students. In September 2010, they celebrated their 50th anniversary with the opening of a new science laboratory. The school maintains high standards of academic excellence by achieving A.P.I. scores above "800" since its inception. Much like its community, the families of S.C.E. come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnic makeups. The school is passionate about its consistent community and parental involvement due to parent-staff committees and the Parent Teacher Club (PTC). The PTC raises money throughout the year by funding or co-funding specialists like Physical Education, Library, and Computer Technology to add to the instructional program. These funds are also used for assemblies and field trips throughout the school year.
The school's mission statement declares: "The staff of Santa Clarita Elementary is a dedicated group of highly qualified professionals. Our mission is to create an environment where people of integrity work together with respect and passion. We are committed to providing excellence in education while modeling good character in order to shape young lives to become productive citizens of tomorrow."
The school's mascot is a bulldog. A statue of a bulldog sits in a small garden, created by outgoing sixth graders, and can be seen as people arrive on the campus.
"You can't hide that bulldog pride".
