In 2009, Rabe was at the centre of a sexual assault case. He claims that in 2006 he was assaulted by Udo Dönsdorf, head of sport for the German ice skating union, the DEU. Dönsdorf denies the allegations but admits a kiss and several private dinners. The case was dismissed in January 2011.
