Shri Datta Mandir at Sanquelim is known for the miraculous cure for mental troubles, which the deity, the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwar, is said to offer.
It is also known to be the hometown of the Prabhu-Sar-Desais{known as Desais}.Just after crossing the river Valvanti, there is the village of Karapur-Tisk where there is an ancestral house of the Ranes of Podoshey with a beautiful temple of Shri Vithal. Sanquelim is very famous for some of its Hindu temples. There are also a number of places to visit around Sanquelim which include the Arvalem waterfalls and Arvalem Caves, located near the famous Shiva temple of Rudreshwar.

History
Sankhali which means "chain" in Konkani, the local language ,was a port-town under the control of Prabhu-Sar-Desais for almost 500 years. They took control of this town from the Devagiri Yadavas in the 13th century.It is said that the Desais won a total of 84 villages and were supported by the chieftains of Surla, Ibrahimpur, Tilari and others, which enabled the Desais to exercise control over a large number of villages. This family in turn supported Konkan Kadamba and later ruled this land freely with tactical alliancess made with Bijapur and Sawantwadi, from time to time.The title of Khasey Saheb(VIP) was given to the Desai family by the Adilshahi. Sankhali fought against the Portuguese for 8 long years, then the Portuguese ruled over it for 200 years. Sankhali has a fort near the old bandar {port}- it is a busy market now.Geography
