The story is a rich, moving tale about a simple family trying to live a dignified life in a cruel world, juxtaposed with the passionate drama of two people in love. The story is a heady mix of love, drama, passion, and emotions. Interwoven into this drama is the subtle thread of spiritualism.
Gauri is gentle and modest, yet sensible, intelligent, brave, and practical. She handles her household responsibilities belying conventions that only males are the providers. Her life takes a dramatic turn when one day a young man Rudra rams his car into Gauri's shop and destroys her means of livelihood.
From that moment onwards, Gauri and Rudra's destinies cross each other. First they are strangers, but eventually, circumstances bring them together as best friends. Gauri is trying to help Rudra get married to the love of his life, Pihu. Pihu and Rudra had a fight and Pihu ended their relationship. She ends up marrying Abhay, a doctor, because of her ego and wish to show Rudra she doesn't need him. Gauri (who has started to fall in love with Rudra) helps him out of depression. Day by day, Rudra is becoming closer to Gauri and Pihu cannot accept that. Abhay is very disturbed because he sees that Pihu hasn't forgotten Rudra.
Soon, Rudra plans to get Gauri married to a boy who loves her. Gauri who just realized she has fallen in love with Rudra, reluctantly accepts the marriage. Abhay tells Rudra that Gauri is the one who has helped Abhay marry Pihu. He tells Rudra that she did this because she secretly loves Rudra. Rudra drinks and in anger crashes Gauri's marriage and since he was out of his senses, he marries her himself. As time passes, Rudra finds out that Abhay lied and he accepts Gauri as his wife. But he tells her that he cannot love her for he will always love Pihu. Gauri comes to his house with him. Rudra's mom cannot accept Gauri as his wife, so she calls Pihu and tells her to create differences between Gauri and Rudra. Pihu takes advantage of this as she too cannot stand seeing Rudra with someone else, and makes a plan in which she is to marry Rudra. Rudra's mom accepts Gauri for she finds out about Pihu's evil intentions. Together, they reveal the truth. Rudra sees Pihu's true colors, and kicks her out of the house and screams at her. When Rudra finds out that at first it was his mom's plan to create differences, he and Gauri move out of the house and start living in the poor. Gradually, Rudra forgets Pihu and he falls in love with Gauri.
Pihu loses her mind and becomes crazy for she denies the fact that Rudra hates her. Now Abhay is trying to take revenge from Rudra and Gauri by breaking their marriage and that is only possible if someone dies. So Abhay kidnaps Gauri and blackmails Rudra for Gauri's life. He had her unconscious and she was getting "married" when she didn't realize it to Ram. Ram is in love with Gauri, and he did not know she was already married. He also didn't know she was unconscious when she was marrying him. When Rudra finds out where Abhay has Gauri and knows he is behind, it they start fighting. Pihu, who is not crazy anymore, realizes her mistake and is on Rudra's side to save Gauri. Abhay tries to set Gauri on fire but also at that time Rudra saves her. Abhay is caught in the fire and dies, Pihu becomes a widow, and everyone else is save. When Ram finds out about Gauri, he leaves.
6 months pass, and Ram marries Rudra's sister to get revenge. Ratnesh (Rudra's evil brother) comes back because he knows that Rudra is working for thugs. Gauri finds out about Rudra's job. She also finds out that Ram still loves her and he is blackmailing Gauri to become Ram's wife. After everything is revealed, Ratnesh goes to jail, Rudra finds out and goes after Ram and Gauri. Ram is chasing Gauri because she was being "stubborn" to surrender herself to Ram in order to save Rudra. Gauri is stuck and she is about to fall off and into a cliff as Ram gets closer but Rudra saves her. As Ram and Rudra fight, eventually Ram grabs a stick and starts to hit him. Ram hits him off the fence but Rudra was hanging on. Ram forces Rudra off and Rudra ends up losing his memory because he hits his head. Ram goes to jail. Rudra doesn't remember what happened in the past 3 years. He doesn't remember meeting Gauri and falling in love with her. He doesn't remember marrying her and that she is pregnant with his child. He thinks he is still in love with Pihu. The doctor tells everyone that if you try to remind him, Rudra can get mad or die. Now Rudra's mom wants Gauri to stay away from Rudra so he doesn't die or lose his mental balance. Gauri asks Pihu to act like she still loves Rudra until Rudra remembers Gauri. Pihu tries to refuse but Gauri makes her promise to pretend she is in love with Rudra. Pihu's Aunt comes, and gets Pihu to become evil again. Now Rudra wants to get married to Pihu and the marriage is in 2 days. Pihu, while acting like she loves Rudra, really falls for him again and now wants to marry him and doesn't want him to remember Gauri. Ratnesh is back and is also helping her in her plan to marry Rudra. Rudra still cares for Gauri and calls her his best friend, but doesn't remember anything. Gauri knows Pihu's evil intentions, but has faith that the Rudra will remember everything before the marriage.
Rudra then remembers that Gauri is his first wife during the marriage. But Gauri has already left the house because Rudra's mother told her to leave him alone. Then Rudra and Gauri get back together and Pihu admits her mistake, and becomes really close to Rudra's family. She says that there is no first, second love there is just true love and she also says that she has lost Abhay and Rudra. Ratnesh gets a place to work in Rudra's office. Gauri becomes a mother to a baby boy which Pihu delivers. At the end Pihu announces that Gauri is pregnant again with a girl this time.

Plot
