In period of 1859-1868 he was also the initiator, organizer and publisher of the "Encyklopedia Powszechna" authored by team of 181 Polish scientists (see: :pl:Encyklopedia Orgelbranda), the first true modern Polish language encyclopedia (example volume: "Encyklopedyja powszechna", vol. 20).
The work was continued by his sons.
