 to sign him on a development contract and he soon became a regular in their Academy and subsequently their reserve sides.

In October 2008 he was loaned out to Mansfield Town

 to gain more first team experience, making his debut the next day but unfortunately sustained an injury in his first game. Although the injury was not a broken leg as first thought it ruled him out for the length of his loan period and he returned to Bramall Lane for treatment.

By January 2009 Wedgbury had regained his fitness and was loaned out once more, this time to The Blades Hungarian sister club Ferencváros, making his debut in the Hungarian League Cup the next month.

Wedgbury returned to Bramall Lane during the 2009-10 season but was unable to break into the first team and was released from his contract.

Macclesfield Town

On 25 January 2011 he joined Altrincham

 on loan and scored for them on his debut as his new club beat Hayes & Yeading 4–2. He scored one goal in six appearances for the club, before returning to Macclesfield. He played in many of the remaining games after his return from Altrincham, with his final tally of appearances totalling 26 with one goal for Macclesfield during season 2010/11. The goal coming in injury time to secure a point against Lincoln City in mid March. That equaliser probably ultimately sent Lincoln City down to the Conference as they only secured one more point all season in their final ten games and went down being one point below Barnet. Wedgbury's impressive performances won him an offer of a two year contract at the end of the season which he signed on May 10.
