Bartolo had a stellar amateur career, and in 1937 won New York Golden Gloves

Pro career

Known as the "Pride of East Boston", Bartolo won the National Boxing Association World featherweight title in 1944 with a points win over Phil Terranova

. Later that year he fought a rematch with Terranova. In the rematch the Referee voted for Terranova but both judges gave it to Bartolo. "Bartolo piled up a long early lead, coasted in the middle stages and flashed back strongly in the closing rounds." New York Times.

He lost the belt to Willie Pep

Life After Boxing

Bartolo later owned and managed the Ringside Cafe in East Boston for over 30 years. He then became a court officer in Salem and Peabody courts until he retired.
