SAP announced SAP Business ByDesign on 19 September 2007 during an event in New York. The solution was known under the code name "A1S" before. In 2003 exactly 10 years after R/3 was introduced SAP decided to go for new architecture, which was called “Ether” and then later “Enterprise SOA.” The first year was spent figuring out how to do enterprise SOA.
