S. Lucas Group is a painting contractor and fitout specialist to the construction industry. It is based in Wrotham, Kent.
In March 2010, S. Lucas won the Finishing and Fitout Category in the Specialist Awards 10 organised by the magazine Construction News and was shortlisted for the same award in 2011 .
In July 2010 the company announced the re-launch of the Muralplast
brand of coatings and protective finishes. Also in July the company was awarded its ISO 140001 certificate for its environmental management systems and in the same month was awarded “D & B Rating 1” by the Dun & Bradstreet credit ratings agency.
In October 2011 the company became an Official Partner of the McLaren Technology Centre
following a series of painting contracts it completed at the new production facility of the sports car manufacturer in Woking, Surrey .
, and the 2012 Olympic Stadium , high rise buildings such as the Shard of Glass being built at London Bridge, and historic buildings such as the Guildhall in London and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre
at Stratford-upon-Avon. Its most recent high profile project has been for the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre in East London . It also operates a residential painting, decorating and small building service.
Its sister company Lucas Fitout provides a commercial buildings finishing and fit out service working, for example, on financial datacentres, facilities at Heathrow and the refurbishment of the Savoy Hotel in London .
History
S. Lucas was founded by Sam Lucas in 1971 and its sister company, Lucas Fitout, was established in 2008. Sam’s eldest son, Danny Lucas, joined the company in 1982 and became the Managing Director in 1997. In late 2010 he acquired his father’s shareholding and became Chairman on his father’s retirement from the day-to-day business. The Commercial Director Ken Mulholland and Danny’s brother Adam, both of whom have worked for the company for 10 years, also became shareholders.In March 2010, S.
