  • 1 August 1866 - Rutherglen to Calder for passenger traffic
  • 19 April 1886 - Extension to Airdrie East opened to freight

  • 3 April 1943 - Whifflet High to Airdrie East closed to passengers
  • 6 July 1964 - Calder to Airdrie East closed to freight
  • 5 October 1964 - Whifflet High to Langloan Junction closed to passengers
  • 7 January 1966 - Remaining passenger services and intermediate stations closed
  • 1 May 1972 - Scheduled passenger services resume along the line on Glasgow Central to/from Perth services.
