Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club hosted The Open Championship
in 1909 and 1920. Two further Open Championships were scheduled to be held there in 1938 and 1948 but both had to be relocated when abnormally high tides inundated the course. Consequently the club was removed from the Open Championship rota, but remains an Open Championship Final Qualifying course (most recently in 2011). It has also continued to host various other tournaments including The Amateur Championship
and, since 1925, it has hosted the Public Schools Championship every year.
Royal Cinque Ports has been chosen as the venue of the 2013 Amateur Championship.
