. It was founded in the 1980s by Martin Birzle, a German glass-blower, who established factories for the product throughout the world.

The company's name was taken from Microorganism, a science publication read by Birzle, and is phonetically similar to the German word for "pipe": rohr. RooR bongs identify individual glass-blowers with an added signature in the form of squiggly lines and dots.

The German-made pipes are specific to size and volume: 35cm, 45cm or 55cm in straight or beaker design, the exceptions being its Blue Series, Zumo Series and the Kustom White Lines range.

RooR Glassware became popular throughout Europe and North America, the company allowing non-German makers to use its name, manufacture in different sizes and shapes and include the glass-blower's signature.
