In May 2002, Romanian Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing Miron Mitrea and his Slovenian counterpart, Jakob Presecnik signed an agreement on sea transportation between Romania's and Republic of Slovenia's governments.
In June 2003, Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel and Romanian colleague Mircea Geoana met and discussed economic cooperation, especially in the field of pharmacy. They confirmed that relations were excellent with no outstanding issues. They discussed various agreements and protocols that were being formalized, and ways to strengthen economic and cultural ties. Both countries are committed to closer cooperation, particularly in terms of integration into EU and NATO.
In June 2004, the President of Romania Ion Iliescu
made a two-day official visit to Slovenia. He discussed subjects such as European integration, the situation in Iraq and the Hungarian minorities in both countries. During the visit, the Slovenian and Romanian Ministers of Health signed an agreement for cooperation in the fields of health and medicine. Ion Iliescu said that he hoped that Romania would be able to conclude EU accession negotiations in 2004 with technical assistance from Slovenia.
In September 2005, Romanian Foreign Minister Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu and Slovene Parliament Speaker France Cukjati
discussed the options for economic cooperation between the two countries.

Economic cooperation between Slovenia and Romania has grown fast recently. Slovenian exports to Romania in 2002 increased by 21% and amounted to EUR 78.8 million, and imports increased by 4% and amounted to EUR 98.3 million.
